For over 10 years now, we’ve had several wi-fi cameras positioned around our property to help give us peace of mind. The cameras in the beginning were from a variety of vendors, most of which are gone now. As the cameras are aging out, I’ve started replacing them with newer models.When it came time to replace our two cameras around our deteched garage, I started looking deeper at Foscam. Previous experience with Foscam wasn’t the best (about 5 years ago), but WOW, was I blown away with this latest product.Solid, dependable, easy to setup, it’s all there. It’s a solid build, not some cheap plastic product that leaves you wondering how long it’ll last. The setup for the product is really easy. Via their app it generates a QR code that you aim at the camera, and it does the rest.The Foscam app is great and gives you access to like 80% of the features of the camera. To get access to the other 20% you need to go to Foscam’s website and down their NVR software, a small price to pay to configure things like using a static IP.The images this camera generates is amazing. Crisp, clear and vibrant! It’s a night and day difference between this camera and my older bullet camera from 8 years ago.All this, for what kind honestly is a great price. 8 years ago i paid over twice what I paid for these cameras.A few minor things I’ll point out:1. I recommend configuring the camera first before mounting it. Plus, if you’re going to put a SD Card in the camera, best to do that as well before mounting it. It’s just easier to work with the camera up front before mounting it.2. When you first configure the camera, it’ll annouce it’s finished. After that, it takes about a minute or two before you can access the camera via the app. Not sure what it’s doing during that time, but it eventually connects. Maybe it’s checking for updated firmware??3. Mounting the camera on a ‘mounting block’ or a Foscam mounting box gives the camera a polished appearance that really makes it look amazing.

Many nice features for a fair price
Pre-installation SetupAs with my previous Foscam cameras, setup was very easy using my laptop, router and Foscam app on my iPhone. The process took only about 15 minutes. I connected using my 5G Wi-Fi. I setup the 1-month free 7-day cloud service, which activated very quickly.InstallationSince I was replacing my HT2 camera with the SD4, installation was very easy. I simply removed the HT2, then mounted the SD4 in the exact same location over looking my driveway. I intend to relocate the HT2 camera overlooking my backyard. As a side note, I have a RC2 model installed in my garage for the last few years with the 7-day cloud service and love it.FeaturesThe camera housing and appearance appears to be the same as my HT2 model. This made installation a breeze since the mounting hardware is identical. Furthermore, the power adapter was the same, so the existing HT2 adapter worked just fine. The camera is very quick and responsive to panning movements over my 5G wi-fi connection. The distance from my Nighthawk router is about 50 ft. ‘line-of-sight’ and it works just fine. The free 7-day Elite cloud service for a month is a nice added feature as you can decide if you like and want to continue the service. Foscam offers several cloud service options at reasonable pricing. The intelligent alarms settings work very well with minimal false detections. I installed a 128 Gb micro SD card as well and find it very useful if continued footage of an alarm event is of interest. I find that I can get about 8-days of continuous 24/7 looping footage on the SD card. Note: Orient the contacts of the the micro SD card up when installing it and be careful not to drop a screw as they are very tiny and stainless steel. So, you can’t use a magnet to help find one in the grass. I know this from experience 😉 The night vision is amazingly clear as well.Support ResponseI initially had a minor manual focus issue with the camera. After trying everything I could think of, I contacted Foscam Support. Nora was extremely helpful and quick in helping to resolve this issue remotely. Be aware that support is located in HK and a response may take 24-hours, but they will respond and will do what is necessary to resolve any issues.I’ll continue to be a Foscam customer for years to come! Great products!
