I never thought I would be writing a review for a security camera, but after my unforgettable experience with the Foscam Security Wireless Camera , I couldn’t resist sharing my story. From the moment I set my eyes on this compact outdoor plug-in smart wireless security camera, I knew my home would never be the same again.Unboxing:When the package arrived, Inside I found the Foscam Wireless Camera. I have to admit, the camera itself looked adorable, It was like a cute little spy on a mission to protect my home.Easy Setup:Setting up the Foscam was an absolute breeze. Even for a technologically challenged person like me, it took no more than a two minutes. I plugged it into an outlet, connected it to my Wi-Fi using the Foscam app on my smartphone, and voila! I was ready to go. It’s worth mentioning that the app was incredibly user-friendly, guiding me through the entire setup process with clear instructions.Crystal Clear HD Video:The Foscam Wireless Camera boasts an impressive 5MP 3K video quality, and boy, does it deliver! The first time I viewed the live feed on my phone, I was blown away by the clarity and sharpness of the image. It felt like I was watching a high-definition movie, except this one was starring my own living room. The camera captured every detail, from the texture of my couch to the fur on my pet’s back.Night Vision Magic:Nighttime is when the real fun begins with the Foscam Wireless Camera . Great outdoor wifi stationary camera without breaking the bank.
I recently purchased the VP5 camera to use outdoors aimed at my tool shed, a common target of theft in suburban america. While I have a Blink setup for doorbell and general perimeter camera duties, Ive histrically had foscam cameras for indoors. In my opinion, the foscam cameras are in a class above the Blink.I have four older foscam cameras which have served me very well as nursery / nanny cams, as well as general protection. These cameras have helped my wife and I raise two children, allowing us to keep an eye on them while on the couch, cooking dinner, out in the yard, or otherwise occupied. My wife leaves the house early, and will often remotely watch the morning routine where I get the kids ready for school before heading off to work as well. Its been very helpful when I forget an article of clothing or a backpack, and my wife will shoot me a text to gently remind me. These cameras have proven themselves indispensible over the years, and I have high expectations for the VP5 as well.The setup is certainly different from the old way. The app will generate a QR code you can show to the camera in order to configure the wifi settings. No more web configuration is necessary, nor available. The build quality seems pretty solid. My old cameras were built like a tank, and this one seems up to the same level. Hopefully its enough to withstand the elements outdoors.The alarm settings are app driven, similar to my other cameras. The recording clips are stored on an SD card located below a waterproof door on the camera body. There are options to add cloud recording and storage. It looks like you can also run a software VMS on a local PC, or possibly a hardware NVR if you wanted. My older cameras have the option for FTP based alarm recording, which helps keep the alarm recordings safely off site. The new camera does not appear to support FTP, pushing the upsell towards the cloud service or NVR. Everone needs to decide for themselves how important offsite storage is.Picture quality is fantastic, light years beyond the older cameras. I’m amazed how far I can pinch zoom in on the app. And night vision seems to be fantastic and close range, and adequate further out.Time will tell how this camera holds up exposed to the elements. But if the longevity is anything like my older foscam cameras, it should provide many years of bulletproof service.

Color night vision? Nope. Still a great camera.
As a long-time user of Foscam products, I currently have four Foscam G4 cameras installed around my home. Recently, I decided to add another camera to my setup.Pros: The camera is robustly constructed, much like the G4 model. The image quality has significantly improved, offering clearer visuals, especially when zooming in on the video feed. The setup process was straightforward, consistent with my previous experiences. Additionally, the inclusion of a microphone and speaker is a welcome enhancement.Cons: My primary concern is the misleading advertisement regarding âcolor night vision.â This camera does not possess true color night vision. While the spotlight feature does provide color images, this is akin to using a flash on a camera and does not constitute genuine night vision. The claims of color night vision are, at best, misleading. Given that the color night vision and improved picture quality were the main selling points for me, I find myself 50% disappointed.Another issue is the AI detection, which remains largely ineffective, similar to its predecessor. The camera frequently generates false alerts.Despite these drawbacks, I still appreciate the camera and believe it is a worthwhile upgrade over the G4, particularly considering its price point. I plan to gradually replace my G4 cameras with this new model.
