    Better than Ring Pro
    I like this smart doorbell. Install was easy as are all TP-Link devices and it updated firmware after install. Camera looks great and has good coverage. The camera is 2k. Detection zones are by type; car, pet, person, package and general motion. Within each zone are on/off and sensitivity controls for the selected zone. In my case motion is set to 2 and people and packages are more sensitive at an 8. Per and car are off. Plug in chime is pleasant to hear. Another great feature is the onboard microSD card so you can capture video for viewing or download, no subscription needed! They do offer a cloud service if you don’t want to use an SD card for a fee (not needed). The new TAPO app is an upgrade to the old KASA app. Recommended!

    This is for the install only. Just finished on 12-7-24
    Excellent device and it works beautifully. The only minor complaint is when I went to open the app to get started to install the device, it seemed to have issues taking me to the start up. I later got it to work and it had very easy and detailed instructions.I installed it using the physical paper instructions that came with the device. And while they were not as exacting as the app, it was sufficent to get it done. I would recommend this one. Super clear photos and video and lots of detailed settings in the app.

    Great Doorbell with Local Storage
    Installation was very easy with the exception of getting my existing bell to ring with this new TP-Link doorbell. It took me 45 minutes to remove my old (Ring) doorbell and install this one, then 3 hours to troubleshoot and find the reason the existing chime was not working (still unsolved, but it is working now). TP-Link chat help was OK, but seemed that I knew more than they did. I got the doorbell to work myself, and it’s been working great! Love the one-app to use with TP-Link devices…all centralized for easy access. Very nice doorbell, works well, GREAT video recordings. I’m very pleased with it!

    Meets expectations
    I’m very pleased with the ease of set-up, installation, and results with this doorbell camera. It’s very sensitive if set to the max level . They list Motion, People, Autos, Pets and Packages and each configurable for a specific area and sensitivity. Very clear video, good night vision if viewing area isn’t lit. I have it hard wired and using the 24/7 option with a 512gb SD card installed. which according to Tapo tech should be good for nearly 40 days of recording. It will loop record, and the time line can be searched easily. This is one of very few cams offered that will provide both local storage with no subscription fees needed and dual power source. Oh yeah.. it will run on battery and record events only (Not continuous) in case of a power outage. I have recommended this doorbell to a couple of friends since installing, and do so here, too.

    Pretty good
    I bought this to replace a Ring doorbell. The images are clearer and I like that it works in the Tapo app with the switches and other Tapo devices I have. Setup was easy.There is one ongoing issue and some smaller things which won’t affect everyone.1) The camera is slow to recognize approaching people. If someone walks quickly the saved video may show only their back as they leave. If they arrive slowly or stand at the door the picture is great.2) The wide angle lens is the wrong choice for our home. People tend to think “wider is better”, but visitors can only approach our door in one way. Well over half the field of view is wasted on a wall on one side or landscaping on the other. And no, no one is going to sneak up through the landscaping, they way things are laid out. Another lens option would be nice.3) A wedge is provided to bias the camera left and right. This is a good idea and I used it, but they failed to provide a way to mount the camera on siding which overlaps at an angle. I had to design and 3D print a second wedge to correct for that (see photo).4) The IR light for night conditions can light adjacent surfaces so brightly that the camera has to reduce brightness, making areas you actually want to see very dim. Angling the camera away from the wall I mentioned helped, but it is a partial solution. A way to physically block the light from some of its range would be very helpful. Of course a narrower field of view for both lens and the lights would be even better (see item 2).

    Better than the major brand
    I already own a half-dozen Tplink smart light switches and I’ve been really happy with them. Because of this, I decided to try the new Tapo D225 doorbell. I own another (major brand) smart doorbell, but I got tired of the monthly / yearly fees. Because my other brand doorbell is cloud based, the video often freezes or becomes unstable. However, the Tapo D225 stores video on an SD card, so no yearly / monthly fees, and the video quality is absolutely amazing.What I like most about the Tapo D225 is the near instantaneous alert when someone approaches and preses the doorbell. The other brand has a significant delay but this is not an issue with the Tapo. The video comes to your phone just like a phone call, so it’s super quick.The video and sound quality is amazing, even at night; head to toe. It really is a quality smart doorbell.I’m very impressed with the Tplink Tapo lineup – their products just work.

    Our last video doorbell kept switching off and not working so got this instead and is already proving to be the best value.Easy to install, microSD card storage means no need for online subscription services, with a 256gb card will keep well over a year of recorded video clips, it can take up to 512gb!.The motion detection is fully customizable with plenty of options which make it very powerful however the interface is extremely easy to use, making it a quick and simple task to set up all important areas to monitor and ignore the areas that have constant traffic so you are not constantly alerted every time a car drives past.The included remote chime just plugs into any outlet and can be heard from anywhere in our house, battery is good for a month of use on a charge and it can run directly off the current from the original doorbell, just bypass the chime so there is a constant current.Video quality is great, slight delay but I’ve never seen one with true real time to your phone.No network connectivity issues at all.Oh and works with Both Android and Apple.
