    Works exactly as advertised
    This is a great, easy way to add or relocate an existing switch. The range is excellent: my transmitter (the switch) is about 60′ from the receiver (the part that wired into the junction box) in a covered outdoor location and response to the switch is 100% and instantaneous.I opened the transmitter up to note the battery type before installation. It is a CR 2032 “watch style” battery (included). I was impressed by the layer of silicone waterproofing inside the transmitter, a testament to their claim of water resistance. However, do note that replacing the battery requires opening the transmitter with a small screwdriver while trying not to break tiny and seemingly delicate tabs that hold the case closed. The transmitter is designed to stick on a wall with double faced tape and to replace the battery would require removing the transmitter from the wall and replacing with new double faced tape. Hopefully the battery will last for months so this won’t become a frequent annoyance. It is a shame they didn’t design this unit to fit a standard junction box with a Decora-style electrical trim plate; that would make for an easy and ideal installation with what is called an “old work” electrical junction box; such an installation would require a hole in the wall, but it would require no wiring inside the wall and would end up looking exactly the same as any other wall switch.The instructions are actually not as bad as some reviewers have stated, but what is confusing is the fact that they have used their own color coding for the wires. Red in their case is line (hot, which is black in US standards), Brown is load (again this would be black in the US), and the unit has a confusing two blue wires that represent neutral (white in the US). In the US we would customarily see only one neutral wire coming out of the device as neutral is normally not switch but instead passed through in the junction box, bypassing the switch entirely. This begs the question: does one need to separate a neutral in and neutral out for this switch, or can both neutrals simply be connected to the neutral bus in the junction box? I tested simply connecting both neutrals to the neutral bus, as is standard in the US, and the unit worked fine so the neutral is not for some reason switched inside the receiver, they are simply two leads connected to the same common neutral. I hope this info makes installation clearer for those who understand what I am talking about.Finally, I never tried using the supplied wire connectors; they appear inferior as many other reviewers have noted and likely not up to code as well. I used traditional wire nuts, worth a couple cents extra for peace of mind.Aside from instructions that are only fairly good, and confusing wiring protocol, and aside from a form factor that almost matches other switches but simply doesn’t, this is a great product that works well and appears to have very good weather proofing. I cannot speak to durability over time as I have just installed mine today, but as of this moment I am thrilled with the ease of use, the price, the quality and of course the convenience it adds for my purpose.

    Tiny (1.5 x 0.9 x 0.87 inch) Receiver fits in any location. A REAL HELPER!
    This was a real problem solver for me. I have a bathroom exhaust fan that I wanted separate control of apart from the lights that were wired on the same circuit. Access to the space above the fan was impossible for electrical wiring. This Thinkbee product is just what I needed. The receiver is tiny enough to fit in the exhaust fan wiring space with plenty of room leftover. The supplied quick connectors also made connections easy and fast. I literally had it all installed and paired in 5 minutes.This Thinkbee version comes with a standard size wall cover that holds the transmitter. You have a choice of placing it on the wall with the double sided tape provided or placing the plate into a standard size wall receptacle box. If you go with the tape option (I did), the cover does not sit flush with the wall, but sits slightly above it. I didn’t think I would like that, but it actually doesn’t look bad. The product is a refined device with a good looking transmitter switch.The transmitter sits in the cover and is removeable from the cover for battery changes. When you press the button a blue light blinks with each press. Each press turns the receiver on or off. You can program (optional) the receiver as what state the device returns to when power is removed and reapplied. For instance, in the default state “closed”; when power is turned back on, the receiver remains off, until commanded to turn back on by the transmitter. This is good for those situations, like mine, that you have another wired wall switch (say controlling lights) that you apply power ON to when entering the bathroom, but you have independent control of a connected fan (my situation) by the receiver switch. Once programmed, the receiver remembers pairing and open / closed states without power. If the receiver was programmed for “open” the lights and the fan (receiver) would turn ON with application of power. Without this great memory feature, you could have lights/fans turning on or off unsynchronized when you apply power.I was surprised to see that the blue indicator strip is made of glow-in-the-dark material, a nice, unexpected touch.The included instructions are pretty tiny, but they are easy to understand. There is a pairing button and LED light located on the receiver. The illustration showing this is hard to see. Once you know where the pairing button is on the receiver, pairing is fast and easy.My application didn’t need anywhere near the claimed range, as my set is located about 6 feet apart, and the switch operates with complete reliability. The antenna on the receiver is about 8 inches long, and I drilled a small hole in the metal electrical fan enclosure to allow the antenna to pass through and along side the inside of the plastic fan ceiling cover so the antenna would not be seen, but would be able to receive without obstruction.Recommended.

    Easy to use, reliable, problem solver
    I now have 7 of these in my house. Each worked out of the box and has been reliable since day one. Some are now years old.My first five were used to solve a tricky problem where I cut through a wall to join two sides of a duplex on a long hall with a stairwell. The existing 3 way wired switch (bottom and top of the stairs) to control the hall lighting was not going to work and a lot of wiring was going to be needed to allow lights to be switched on and off at each end of the hall and by the rooms along the hall in addition to a switch at the bottom of the stairs. Using Thinkbee 3 ways, connected to two lights in the hall ceiling, I was able to wirelessly set up a neat and safe system that has been working with zero problems for 3 years.I just put in two more Thinkbees to upgrade a fan only switch in a bathroom to fan and light separate switches for a upgraded fan to light/fan installed without having to pull new wire up the wall and across the ceiling. Big time saver. Again, setup is very easy and these Thinkbee devices just work when installed and keep on working over time.

    Had this put in a fluorescent tube light and put the switches at two doors. Great for built under old Queenslanders. Saved heaps in trying to get cable to light switches. Works brilliantly.
