Great small relay, needs a bridge for all features
The Sonoff ZBMINIR2 is a fantastic hidden relay designed to convert your existing âdumbâ light switches into smart ones. Itâs compact enough to tuck behind a light switch, making it a seamless solution for upgrading without changing your fixtures. However, like many smart devices, it does have a caveatâyouâll need Sonoffâs own hub or bridge to unlock its full feature set. While thatâs a slight drawback, the overall functionality makes it worth considering.I used two of these relays to tackle a tricky two-way switch circuit. I have a light in the loft controlled by switches at the bottom of the stairs and in the hallway, but there was no switch at the top of the stairs. Hereâs how I solved it: 1. I installed one ZBMINIR2 on the âpoleâ side of the two-way switch circuit downstairs. 2. I wired another upstairs where there was an unused light switch (previously wired for outlets that had since been converted).Using the upstairs switch, I configured a âsceneâ to command the relay downstairs. This setup now controls the loft light without the need to run additional wiring upstairs. Even better, the upstairs switch doesnât need to be directly connected to a loadâit works perfectly with the relay via the scene setup.Initially, I tried to achieve this with the Sonoff ZBMINIL2, but since it requires a load wire to function, I wouldâve needed to add a resistor between the neutral and load terminals. This workaround wasnât ideal, as it would waste power and generate heat whenever the switch was on. Switching to the ZBMINIR2 resolved the issue entirely and allowed for a cleaner, more energy-efficient solution. In summary, the ZBMINIR2 is a reliable and versatile relay for upgrading your switches to smart functionality without major rewiring. Just keep in mind the need for Sonoffâs hub for full compatibility. Itâs a great little device for creative problem-solving in home automation.

The answer to so many problems!
This device is awesome! With the detach relay deal there is zero delay in the physical light switch. I replaced all my matter ones with these ones because the experience is so much better. I use them with home assistant and have no issues. They are not ul or etl certified which I donât like. The matter ones are at least etl certified.

i found this to be a very easy to work with smart switch, it’s nice and compact and providing you have the requisite neutral wire available is very easy to work with.it integrated into my smart home setup with no issues and i find it to be responsive and reliable in use.compatibility with these items is very heavily reliant on your specific setup so i’d caution doing some research to make sure it will work with the kit you have first but as a product I think it’s both well made and affordable.

This device will not pair with a Hue bridge – despite the SONOFF website claim that it is compatible. A great pity as it is significantly smaller than the original version – the ZBMINI. This still works perfectly with the Hue, and is about half the price – so that’s what I’m sticking with.

Ever since moving to ZigBee, Sonoff has been my go-to manufacturer. It is just a shame the plug sockets are unavailable now. This allows you to convert a normal light switch into a smart light switch. You do need a neutral wire for it, which some UK houses have, others don’t, please check first. The unit itself is tiny, about 3cm x 2cm x 1.5cm. Even then, you may need to fit it behind the back box as many have very limited space available. It does a great job, pairing easily with Home Assistant.
