    decent smart bulb, requires wifi, could use color match feature, documentation issues
    This is basically the same as Intermatic’s A19 bulb from the same ABRA product line, but in a flood light BR30 form factor for recessed cans or track lighting. I’m using it in a torchiere type floor lamp.It unsurprisingly has the same issues I previously noted in a review of Intermatic’s A19 smart bulb, i.e. the webpage listed in the leaflet that comes with the bulb doesn’t exist (yet?), so no full user manual is to be found there. The description suggests that you can set it up with either WiFi or Bluetooth but there is no Bluetooth capability apparent, requiring WiFi and the Intermatic ABRA app to setup.Since I already had the app installed, adding the second bulb to my setup was pretty simple, as was adding it to Google Home that I had already linked to the Intermatic ABRA setup. No real complaints there.A couple of additional issues I noticed:- the photo in the product listing shows 700 lumen output printed on the bulb, whereas the product I received shows 750 lumen printed on the bulb, which matches the Amazon product listing title, so a good thing assuming it does have that higher output- the torchiere floor lamp I installed this bulb in has a second, gooseneck lamp for reading/close-up work, and it has a different brand LED bulb in it. Despite the ABRA bulb’s wide range of colors and color temperatures, I couldn’t get it to a color setting that came close to matching the gooseneck lamp’s bulb. While experimenting with the color palette feature in the ABRA app, it looked like it had a feature to copy a light/color profile. That feature doesn’t actually seem to do anything as far as I could tell. I thought it might have been able to use my phone’s camera to identify the color output of another light source and then copy that color in the ABRA bulb. It would be AWESOME if it could do that, but so far, it doesn’t seem to do anything. Or maybe it copies the color profile from another ABRA bulb attached to my account? I don’t know, I haven’t figured it out yet. If only there were a full user manual available on their website, or if the ABRA app had some help page for me to read, but it has none.Oh, one other thing–the ABRA app keeps wanting to know my physical location (I have my phone not to allow it without confirmation). It’d be nice if the app had a check box that lets me say “don’t bother asking unless you REALLY need it for what I’m trying to do”. I suppose there are some features that could conceivably need to know my location (maybe switching a “scene” on/off based on my location, e.g. turning on some lights when I am approaching home, or powering on a coffee maker in the morning, but only if I’m, or rather my phone is, in the house).

    Great smart light bulb – easy setup
    The light bulb shipped in a standard-sized shipping box and included an instruction sheet with the light bulb. The instruction sheet was written in good English and was very clear in its setup instructions. At the bottom-left corner of the instruction sheet, below the standard warnings, you are instructed to download the required ABRA app. In the Apple store I found it by searching “Intermatic ABRA app.” Just searching on “ABRA” brought up a lot of unrelated apps.I downloaded the app and then was instructed to set up an account using my email address. I was emalied an authorization code which I put into the app and then was asked to set up a password. Unlike most apps I was only asked to input the password once and there was no “eye” icon for me to review the password to make sure I had entered it correctly. So be very careful to enter your password accurately.I tested the bulb in our guest bedroom, installing it in a 3-way switch lamp (50-100-150 watts). The bulb came on at the 100 watt setting. At first I thought it wasn’t working, but after about three or four seconds it began to flash, indicating bluetooth pairing.I used the app to connect, first connecting the app to my wifi and then connecting to the smart bulb. It was easy and fun to change the color and intensity of the light.I used the app to set up a schedule to automatically turn the guest bedroom light on in the early evening and to automatically turn off later in the evening. It was easy to do, the only minor hitch being the need to select each day of the week independently, as the default setting is to only perform the action once.If you have multiple bulbs (I do not) you can create more complex scenes. There is a “Music” option that you can use to have the light pulse in rhythm to your music. The app uses your phone’s microphone to listen to the music. I didn’t try this feature out, but it looked interesting.This is a reasonable price for a very functional smart light bulb. I recommend it.

    Great bulb – easy to set-up
    I got these ABRA bulbs to create some timed lights throughout the house. They were very easy to set up. The Intermatic ABRA app is intuitive and adding and managing a bulb is super easy. Setting a schedule was easy. I also like that the lights can display colors, and this can be used to set a scene. Scenes are defined by rooms – and you assign a bulb to a room. Easy to do. My one nit is I couldn’t create my own room. The app comes with a handful of predefined names. Naturally I put two of these bulbs in my basement, which isn’t one of the choices. Not a huge issue, what’s more important is I could create a “movie theater” scene where the lights create backlighting similar to a theater.Bottom line: I recommend these bulbs.I’ve got to investigate if or how I can link these lights to the TV – so when the TV comes on, the bulbs change to “theater mode.”
