The sockets CANNOT BE CONTROLLED INDEPENDENTLY on mine.
*****For those who prefer not to read my whole review, count how many buttons there are on top of the SMART OUTDOOR PLUG. Standard configuration for “Independently Controlled Outlets” requires 1-button for each outlet minimum. This is so you can manually turn that specific outlet off or on, and by extension, some will include a 3rd-button to control the entire device, like an override button for everything. Mine only has 1-button, and the app itself only recognizes the plug as having one outlet. It sucks that both outlets work only as one, but I can work around it?*****So, here’s the thing, I bought this outdoor SMART Plug, not to be used outdoors, but indoors. I need to automatically reboot a dedicated WiFi Router in my home network for my IoT (aka SMART Devices). I’m using an SMB Multi-WAN Router to connect to my ISP’s modem, and a WiFi MESH System for the rest of humanity. Both work great, but the SMB Router automatically reboots everyday at 6 AM, and for some odd reason, the IoT Router changes the Default Gateway address to 0.0.0.0. IoT Devices can still connect to the Internet, but the corrupted setting causes the router to cap WiFi at 30 Mbps Download, and 10 Mbps Upload.I saw this Brightech Outdoor Wi-Fi Smart Plug, and realized that it could possibly solve two of my issues. I was fully aware that it states on the product page that the device should work with virtually any lighting device, but there was no guarantee it would; especially in my scenario. I also know that it employ a Tuya SMART Module, so I decided to give it a shot. I have to give credit where credit is due, and I applaud Brighttech for attempting to make this plug more limited and proprietary. The plug itself was simple enough to pair with the app without trying to read tiny font printing, BUT SURPRISE!! Instructions I can actually and easily read without a magnifying glass or app. Another PLUS for Brighttech. This does not mean it was easy to pair the app and plug together. Nope. As sometimes happens, not only might you need to reset a device, you may need to reset it 3 or 4 times in a row before the LED finally begins to blink at the fast rate, which sync’s with the blinking in the app’s example. Glitches happen, which is why I’m thankful that we have reset.Once the blinking rate matched the app’s rapid blinking example, pairing was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, that’s when I discovered that my outdoor plug might be defective, or one of the product pictures may be just plain wrong. In the app itself, the SMARTLife App, it only shows 1, just one outlet being controlled! There’s a picture that states, “Two AC Outlets Controlled Independently.” Yeah, no. Mine does not work that way, and I’ve been sitting here testing both outlets to confirm that they are both tied together to a single solitary relay. Oh, there could be a relay for each outlet internally, but there is no way in the app to control each outlet independently. It’s all or nothing. In fact, I skimmed the other reviews, and not one mentioned ever attempting to control each of the two outlets independently, but again I skimmed, so maybe I missed something. I just know that this outdoor plug does not allow for each outlet to run on its own timer program. Now, the scenario I’m in where an outdoor SMART Plug is better for indoor use has to do with the short power cord, and the 90 degree male plug end. I have networking equipment plugged into a power strip, but due to the way the femae outlets are aligned, and the bulky power adapters that came with the equipment, I can’t use all the outlets because the adapters cover them when plugged into the power strip. I was truly hoping that both outlets in the outdoor plug worked independently, so I could plug the outdoor plug directly into the wall outlet, and the power strip into one of the two Brighttech outlets. Obviously with mine I can’t do it that way. However, I can plug the Brighttech into the bottom wall outlet, a power strip into the Brighttech, since there’s a slightly overhanging lip on the outdoor plug to help protect the outlet sockets from the weather, and then an unmanaged ethernet switch and the IoT Router into that power strip. This allows me to not just automatically reboot the IoT Router everyday at the same time by using an “Off Timer”, and then an “On Timer” one minute later, but also provides an added bonus. By setting up the Brighttech as the only SMART Device connected to my MESH System, I can manually reboot the IoT Router whenever necessary, which is helpful since it is not in my living room. So, I give it 4-stars initially, but only time will tell. I had to take 1-star off because there is no way in the app for me to set timers for each of the outlets separately, which is what, “Two AC Outlets Controlled Independently,” means to me. Other than that issue, which is a big deal to me, I like the Brightech Outdoor Wi-Fi Smart Plug so far.

Plug seems well made. App seems to work with lots of devices but is CLUNKY!
The plug seems well made. It has nice rubber covers for the unused outlets and is rated for 15A. Everything seems good there. The app you download is the Tuya smart app which seems to be a generic, works with many different manufacturers and devices kind of arrangement. I have 10+ Amazon Alexa devices and many switches, plugs and lightbulbs that I have configured to work with Alexa. I have never had much difficulty making anything work. This app was not nearly as easy. The directions are actually fairly well written but working with the app is not a great experience. In particular I donât like typing in the name of my wireless network and the password into the app and not knowing how that will be transmitted and stored in a Chinese server somewhere. I know its necessary to have the device online and I only allowed it onto my guest network but I didnât have a good feeling about it. The device responds quickly when working with it from my phone. I mean like freaky fast! I was unable to get my Alexa app to ever find the device and add it. At this point I am probably going to just leave it where it is. It will meet my needs and I wonât give it any more time. Bottom line, it all works but it is not great.

Can’t control the outlets independently
Adding the device in tuya is as easy as it usually is, but that’s the only good thing I can say about this plug. The included instructions show it in tuya with 2 outlets, but it only adds with one. So that means you need to power both outlets at the same time, which is not what they advertise. Tried to contact tech support about it and gave up after being asked unrelated questions.

Not sure it’s waterproof in all situations
This was sold as a bundle with light strips from the same brand. It looks sturdy and seems waterproof. It has 2 3-prong outlets with individual caps BUT the light strips sold with them as a bundle are standard 2 pin plugs. So, you end up with an exposed hole. For an outdoor setup, that doesn’t look optimal. The app and the internet setup worked very well, as well as integration with Google home. I can now turn my lights on and off with voice commands or put them on a schedule. I’ll be looking for a custom solution for further water proofing the outlets though.

Easy to use
Just make sure to connect it to 2.4 GHz, not 5G, WiFi, and it’ll work like a dream. It’s very well made / sturdy and seems to be waterproof as rated for outdoor use.
