Love Kasa products
We got this smart plug for our Christmas lights and it works great. We have several Kasa switches in our house and have been pleased with them all. The app is very user friendly and intuitive. This switch was extremely simple to add to the app and get set up. Most of the time with these devices they need to update the firmware on the first use, and it automatically prompts you when setting it up and takes no time at all. I like that because it makes sure on your first use the product is going to be as up to date as possible. Both sides of the switch are independently programable via the app which makes it very handy for multiple items to get power. What is really cool is that it doesn’t just have to be a set time on and off. You can choose to have the sockets activate at sunset or a set time. You can program it for different days of the week to do different things. It is extremely versatile and easy to use.We have it hooked up under a covered area so I can’t speak to its weather proofing, but given their reputation I would believe whatever the listing says about it. It is very affordable and Amazon usually has sales on Kasa devices as well. It’s time to upgrade your old light timer to something like this….you won’t regret it!

One of the better outdoor smart plugs I have used!
I purchased this Kasa 2-outlet plug to control a 12′ Santa with Alexa from my backyard. Kasa is under the TP-Link brand, which I’ve had good experiences with. The setup was straightforward: I plugged it in, downloaded the app, updated the firmware, and linked it to Alexa through a somewhat hidden menu “third party services”. I placed it outside on a pool deck, about 35 feet from my home, and it worked well even at the edge of my Wi-Fi signal. I used an outdoor-grade extension cord with no issues. However, it takes a minute or two for the Kasa to sync with Alexa after being unplugged and relocated. Works great!

Kasa Always Comes Through!
Kasaâs smart home products are among the best in the industry. It is evident that a lot of time and effort is pit in to the design, development and testing of their products, as well as the Kasa app (note: we are using the iOS version of their app). It is utterly offensive when you purchase an amazing product and find that the company has put little-to-no effort in to their app. I’m happy to report that the Kasa developers have not let anyone down in this regard. Each of the Kasa products we own has been reliable and have never once failed us, and weâve had several outlets in our home for ~12 years now. They are easy to setup and configure. They always (and I mean always!) stay online, and they reconnect after power outages without having to reset everything. They also integrate well with the most common home assistants like Alexa, Google, and IFTTT. Having the ability to group them in to categories and/or rooms allows you to synchronize the behavior of multiple devices. After the initial setup we used the included wire holders and screws (they also provide a wall anchor in each package for stone/concrete) to mount them under the waterproof receptacles in a downward-facing orientation (** Important: you MUST keep the sockets facing down to keep everything waterproof **). We have both of the outlets configured in a âHoliday Lightingâ group, along with several other interior Kasa smart outlets. Theyâre scheduled to go on at sundown and off when we go to bed at night. They behave exactly as expected.Perhaps the only complaint we have has to do with the plug head. It is vertically oriented, which is the normal/expected configuration. However, if your receptacle is horizontally oriented it can be difficult to plug the socket in and close the cover on your [in-use] waterproof receptacle cover. This ended up being a minor issue for us, but we ended up making it work. Only we had to sacrifice access to the second outlet on the receptacle to do so. If Kasa made this with a rotating plug head you could orient it horizontally or vertically and avoid this altogether.

Easy to configure, works well with Alexa, highly recommend
I recently installed two side mounted fans on our patio to keep mosquitos away. We have two ceiling fans, but they didn’t quite blow hard enough, so I installed two side mounted fans which can blow much harder and blow sideways, across where we sit, and they worked great. However, we had to get up/down to activate their pull chains to turn them on/off. I now use this smart socket to control them separately via Alexa. I added the device to Kasa and named the plugs Mosquito Fan 1 and Mosquito Fan 2. I then asked Alexa to turn on Mosquito Fan 1 and it worked right away (I was a little surprised, I had expected I would have to wait a few minutes for Alexa to discover the plugs). I planned to do this when I purchased the fans, so if you decide to do this also, just make sure the fans (or other devices you choose to use) have static on/off mechanism (i.e. it stays switched on when no power). All in all, I am super happy this device and highly recommend it.

Works great when connected to Apple Home
I product this recently to automate my outdoor lights. This smart plug is Matter compatible, which is why I chose this verses the other Kasa Smart plug with HomeKit support. Works seemlessly with KASA app. Setup was very easy. I also have this device added to Apple Home, setup was easy with that as well. The issue I have with this is it keeps disconnecting from Apple Home randomly. And the only way to recover from this is to remove the device and re-add. Device can still be controlled from the KASA app during this. This is a little bit annoying to keep removing and re-adding to Apple Home where all my automations are.I have reached out to TPlink support for this issue. With a few emails back and forth, it was concluded that I should update to the new firmware for the EP40M device. Not sure about the version# of this new firmware, because I already have v1.0.2. Waiting for a response from the support team on the specifics. Will update here once I hear back. Btw, the TPlink support was very prompt in responding to my issue.
