A light this cheap has no business being this good
I am extremely impressed with this little powerhouse light. Being from a budget brand like Neewer, I had pretty low expectations but I am extremely happy with this light. I needed a good, variable temperature backlight to contrast the other white lights I use for interviews, and this fills that niche extremely well without having to drop the $300, at minimum, for other brands.That said, it does have some tiny flaws (none of which are deal breakers) that I want to address first:- The LED’s came with some kind of residue caked on them, I assume from manufacturing. I am unsure if it affected the lights brightness, but the residue cast speckled shadows on the diffuser and made it very noticeable. Was very tedious to get off, as it didn’t come off easily and each bulb had to be wiped rather firmly with a microfiber cloth.- The U-Bracket is not entirely symmetrical, and one side appears slightly bent.- The power block (as others have mentioned) is too high up on the cord, so it dangles from the light when put on a stand. It doesn’t feel like it will topple any respectable light stand, but it does seem like a moderate hazard. I think the entire cord needs to be a tad longer.All things considered, this light has no business being this good for $100. The pros I noticed right off the bat:- The thing is incredibly bright for its size, and is painful to look at with both the yellow and white LED’s at 100%. It’s probably 20% brighter with the diffuser off.- Feels much more durable than I expected with the almost entirely aluminum body and fixture. With many other studio lights, a single trip on a cord means shattered bulbs, but I think this little guy would have a decent chance at surviving a tumble.- The temperature adjustment works great. Nothing else to really say here.- Portability! Way more compact than studio lights with bulbs!- Having the option to run this dude on batteries is great, but you’ll be dropping $50 for the two batteries it requires and a charger.- Pivoting U-bracket is great. Opens up options to light subjects from above or below.If you’re looking for a cheap, adjustable light that doesn’t suck â stop here. This is the one. It’s not bright enough to bathe an entire studio in light, but I wouldn’t expect that for any light this size. It works wonderfully for a fill light or backlight, and would work decently enough for a primary key light if portability is a priority for you, though it won’t be as soft or bright as something brighter with a large diffuser.

I bought the NL-480 and I like it.good points.. – very nice build quality – very bright (this is my only one but it seems really bright to me) – The “yellow” LEDs were less yellow then I thought from the pictures. I personally like the very soft yellow better than a yellow as it shows in the photos. – Could not see any flickering at all.the not as good points..- There is no bolt placement in the center so it would be hard to have it aim down. When I try to aim it down(or horizontally) I have to make the side bolts really tight and that in turn makes it hard to adjust. I am thinking though of adding some small weights to one side to balance it. Just as a note, there are two options for the bolt placement, however, more designed for hanging vs standing. Having the light in a vertical position would not be an issue. – It is pretty heavy. (.93 KG or 32.7 OZ or 2 lbs)Power usage:- The light uses 36 watts at full brightness. When it is off it bounces around between 0 and 1 W so I am guessing it is around .5 W. That is pretty good though for a device with an AC switching power supply attached. So it does use power 24 hours a day but it is pretty low.Other uses:For me, I am going to try and use this for a lamp also. There are lots of good points for this: (1) there is no flicker (2) it can be very bright for a desk light. (3) brightness is adjustable (4) best of all I can choose the temperature(or softness) for each use. The only drawback is that the yellow and white lights cannot be turned on with just one dial.. need to do one then the other. If I connect it to a switch though then I can keep it at preset settings. Or if I don’t use the switch I can just choose each time if I want soft white (for kick’n back) or the bright white light when I am trying to see something (like changing a watch battery). The other drawback is that because of where the screw holes are (see above comment) it will not stay in the horizontal position that well.

Shockingly good (and durable)
UPDATE: I can add that these lights are also incredibly durable. I have one that’s been smashed to a concrete floor several times when the 10′ light stand it was mounted on was tipped over. I also ran over one with a riding mower (blades not spinning). They take a beating and keep on working.—————————————————————————I was quite honestly surprised at how good this light is.First of all, it’s incredibly bright. Most of the time I’m running it at about 20% power. I didn’t think I’d be able to, but I’m going to experiment with putting them in front of a large reflector or through a scrim. They have so much light output I think it’ll work out fine to give me a softer light.I didn’t realize it at the time I ordered, but being able to run on battery is incredibly useful. I’ve seen other reviews talking about the cost and requirements, but in reality a pair of batteries and a charger (Neewer brand) is only about $30. And the light will run quite a while on just one battery, you don’t have to have both in for it to work. What’s also nice is that a lot of other equipment, such as my camera monitor LCD screen, also use the exact same batteries.Another nice feature in conjunction with the battery mode is the fact that you can use the frame as a built-in stand, just tilt the bottom edge of the panel forward and set it on the floor/table with the light stand socket behind (making a triangle) and the light will stand on its own. It made lighting a shot underneath a car so easy.I use the light for video and haven’t seen any flicker at all. However, my D800 has its built-in 60Hz flicker reduction enabled so I’m not sure that others won’t see it.Overall, I’m super pleased with this light. I’m placing an order for two more.

Absolutely fantastic. Has the build quality of a panel twice the price.It’s surprisingly bright considering only half the LEDs are in use for each color temp. The picture is real, but a bit misleading; it’s slightly smaller than an 8.5″ x 11″. Absolutely zero complaints.

Por el precio y la calidad si recomiendo la compra. Tiene mucho rango de luz, y es bastante portÃ¡til en comparaciÃ³n con otras, ademÃ¡s de que incluye un difusor para que sea mÃ¡s suave la luz. Me gustÃ³ mucho que tiene dos perillas para regular la intensidad de la Luz (blanca y amarilla) , aunque hecho de menos una perilla para indicar los grados kelvin y el porcentaje de la baterÃa, pero por el precio y la calidad es mÃ¡s que suficiente!

The light is great! It’s bright, simple to use, solid build quality and the mounts are great. I originally bought 3, but ended up returning 2 of them to buy the larger version. The case isn’t perfect, but for the price of the light, it’s awesome!Colour accuracy is good and lasts a long time on the batteries (not included).
