I use the Apple Ecosystem because it is straightforward and does not require a lot of 3rd party apps to automate smart products, and I don’t have a lot of …
It is 21-Apr-2018 at the time of this review. So the 5 stars is my initial impression, which I will update (best effort) as time progresses and as needed. Also, I pre-ordered the device on Amazon, because it was not yet available. The wait time was about 3 weeks. Anyway, my home automation setup is simple – I have an Apple Homepod that I use primarily as a hub for home automation. I use the Apple Ecosystem because it is straightforward and does not require a lot of 3rd party apps to automate smart products, and I don’t have a lot of time to invest on home automation science projects. The SMART 74582 Smart-plug device does not require a hub to setup. I am not using any app that may (or may not) be available from Sylvania, so I am not rating that. The setup of this device was simple, plug it in, get your phone, go to the Apple Home app, add a device, and scan the small instruction booklet setup graphic that came with the Sylvania device. It worked the first time, no issues. I can issue voice commands to Siri to toggle it off/on, and since I have a hub, I can do this from anywhere my iPhone is wifi/cell connected. I chose to use this device to automate a table lamp that requires a smaller profile lightbulb. I have the SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth Soft White Dimmable A19 LED Bulb, and they work very well. But some table lamps require a smaller lightbulb, and are also too small for a socket automation device. Also, some table lamps have lightbulbs with higher output bulbs than the Sylvania SMART+, cannot use a socket automation device, so the Smart Plug is an excellent solution. The drawback is that the device, that I know of, cannot dim the lightbulb – but I could not dim it before, so no real loss in functionality. The profile of the Sylvania 74582 is so that it does not take space away from the other outlet – it is offset – which is a very well thought out design. The plug is 3-prong (US) male. Conversely, I purchased the Koogeek Smart Plug, WiFi Socket Outlet for Apple HomeKit with Siri (Electronics Controller on 2.4GHz Network) back in Dec-2017, and was not satisfied with it – the product would not setup on my ASUS RT-AC66U router – it kept telling me I had an incompatible Wifi network. However, it configured itself perfectly on my girlfirend’s antique D-Link router, so I gifted it to her. I like the products that I have from Sylvania – the SMART+ bulb (non-color), and the SMART 74582 plug. However, the Koogeek proved to minimize the space on the wall outlet to where it was difficult to plug in other cords. Regarding automation with Homekit, it is as easy as any other device, but my needs are basic at this time – turn the device on at a certain time, such as sunset +1 hours, and turn it off at a certain time, and then respond to Siri through voice commands to turn it on/off. It also has button on the front that can turn the outlet on and off manually as needed. Overall, I’m pleased that Sylvania produced a well thought-out product that is compatible with Apple Homekit.

Great Little Smart Outlet Receptacle | Highly Recommend!
I had no idea that Sylvania was in the smart home game. This adapter wasn’t mentioned in too many places but I found it via a review that said it was a top choice. I agree. It was super easy to set-up, you don’t need a hub and it integrated easily into my Homekit environment. I use it to control a table fan and it has proven to be reliable. I’ve been using it for two weeks with no drop-out or issues.I like that there is an LED indicator which tells you when power is on. Also, unlike many other smart outlet adaptors, I needed one with a vertical orientation rather than the more typical horizontal one. Last cool thing is that when it’s turned on, the icon in Homekit is an animated fan with spinning blades. This is so much easier to see than just the typical white or greyed out icon.

    Flawless and reliable
I have been using this outlet since July/2019. It has worked flawlessly with Siri voice commands and Home app. I also have Google in my home and am currently using Wemo and Kasa TP link. Wemo has been off and on and as of April 2020, I can no longer use voice commands. This Sylvania smart plug has been far more reliable than the others I have tried. Only issues are you can only use one per outlet due to its size and it’s pricy. But as I mentioned before, it works!

    Outstanding Product
This is by far the best smart outlet that I’ve found. It does not require a special app to set up and use — just open the Apple Home app, plug in the outlet, select the “Add Accessory” button and scan the QR code. Viola, it was that simple. Once connected to my home outlet it stayed connected and did not intermittently drop off the network like all of the other smart outlets that I’ve tried. This outlet worked so well that I just installed my second one to replace another brand’s poor performer.

    So far, great product!
UPDATE 1/15/21: I’ve bought four more (total 9) since my first review and now I’m having problems with most of them not responding or responding erratically. Most are in out of the way places, but worked fine until I had to reset my home to work with new eero router (which is fantastic). So I’m knocking my starts down to 3 from 5 and probably putting them on eBay.Original 5 star review. I bought 5 to use with Apple Homekit. Sometimes there is a little delay but not significant. Setup was easy but if you need to reset, the directions included are incorrect. But Customer Service is excellent by phone. So far these outlets are working very well controlling a lot of above cabinet LED puck lights. Great because they work with a small load where my Lutron Casetas don’t. The price is excellent for this quality. It was important to me that they are Bluetooth – I returned 5 Wemos because they were attempting to access bad websites, per my Cujo monitoring device. I am happy with these outlets that compare very favorably with my old Z-waves from Leviton.

I had tried other smart plugs and was disappointed because they kept going off …
I tried this as an experiment. I had tried other smart plugs and was disappointed because they kept going off line or “not responding” to Apple HomeKit. The Sylvania smart plug has worked flawlessly so far. It has been a couple of weeks. (Hope positive review does not jinx it.). Unlike other smart plugs, the Sylvania has no separate app. It works solely through Apple HomeKit which may explain why it works better than others. It set up very quickly and was instantly available in the Apple Home app. I wish everything was as simple and worked as well. Since it is Bluetooth, I am not sure how far away it can be from the AppleTV. I may try that experiment next.
