Works well with Apple Home
These are Tuya-based devices that integrate very cleanly with Apple Home through Matter. Once you connect them to Home, you will want to get the Meross app, which will discover them on your network and let you see the power draw.I have older Tuya plugs that use the SmartThings App. The problem is that the path to connecting those to Home, which you do through HomeBridge is tough. The setup is super messy and you have to log on every couple months and go through a confusing process to renew your account. If you’ve been doing that, save yourself some time and buy Matter-compatible plugs like these.Sadly, I found other Matter-compatible meross plugs I bought are a bit flakey. I’m returning one style because one didn’t work out of the box. As a result, I’m hesitant to recommend the brand.

Great Smart Plugs
After using smart plugs from another popular manufacturer for several years, I decided to try the new Meross smart plugs with Matter to see how they compare. Overall, Iâm very impressed!Setting up these smart plugs is a little different than the plugs Iâve used in the past. The included paper instructions said to click the plus sign in the app and then choose the option to scan the QR code on the plug. However, I didn’t initially get an option to scan a code. Instead, I chose the option to add a smart plug, selected the correct model, and was prompted to watch a short video explaining how to add the device to Apple Home and the Meross app. The video prompted me to open the camera and scan the QR code on the plug, and a moment later, it was added to both apps. Next, it asked if I wanted to add it to Amazon Alexa or Google Home, which was also a simple process.Afterward, I tested controlling the plug through Home, Alexa, and the Meross app, and all worked perfectly. It also responds a bit faster than my other plugs. At this point, I thought it was like any other smart plug. Then I looked in the Meross app and saw a bunch of neat features.First, it can monitor energy usage. I plugged in my laptop charger and was able to see the real-time power consumption. It also logs this info to see power usage over a day, week, month, or year. You can also enter the rate you pay for electricity and track how much it costs to power whatever is plugged in. Iâm going to use these on my indoor Christmas lights this winter to see how much thatâs costing me.Another nice feature is the overheat alert. The plug should never overheat, but if there is a problem or if you overload the plug and it starts to get too hot, the app can alert you. You can also set it to automatically shut off if it gets too hot. There is also a âstandby killerâ feature that can be enabled to prevent devices in standby from using electricity.Overall, Iâm impressed with this smart plug. It was easy to set up and has a great set of features. Iâd definitely recommend it if youâre looking to pick up some smart plugs.

I USED TO have good luck with the Meross brand
Edit: The review below *sort of* still stands, but requires an important revision.Meross did something to their smart plugs and or firmware that made two of my smart plugs inoperable. I was able to resurrect one of them, but not the other which would not reset. I bought yet another replacement and for some reason that was very difficult to get working. THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! My older Meross plugs were issued before (I think) before “Homekit” (whatever that is). They don’t explain it. They also don’t explain what has to be done to pair with Alexa, though I managed to figure it out. I spent over an hour trying to sort out the programming of the plugs. My wifi system has both 2.4 and 5.28ghz channels and part of the trick was to make sure my iPhone was on the 2.4ghz channel as I didn’t think about that and kept getting errors. I think this is typical of Chinese made products. The instructions get translated from Chinese to English and are often lacking. This is certainly the case here. If any of this was “intuitive” the problems would have been solved in less than 5 minutes.I originally bought the Meross plugs because they were of the few that had a 15 amp rating, which worked for my electric tea kettle. But now there are many, the Amazon brand for one, that have the same rating at half the price (or two for 1 pricing).I deducted a star from y original review because of how difficult it was to understand how to install the new plug and reinstall the old one- and still have one that is non functional……………Original reviewOur home has many smart lights and appliances. I have had a few smart switches and plugs which were so-so. But since I discovered the Meross smart plugs I’ve had no issues. This is my go-to brand. I first found these plugs when an earlier purchased plug did not handle the amperage of a standard electric tea kettle. So adequate amperage was my first search criteria and so far over a few years the Meross smart plugs haven’t failed me. I have lights, a tea kettle, and espresso machine, all pulling 1500w going through these plugs without issue. They always turn on and off with Alexa commands are easy to install. One thing I will recommend, whether you buy the Meross plugs or not, buy smart plugs that use the same app for installation/programming. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to remember which app works with which device. Having just one app for all the plugs prevents mental gymnastics.

I love the energy monitoring! Easy setup.
This was very easy to setup & connect to wifi. I use them for different appliances, heaters, devices, etc. to see how much each is costing me to run.I have bought 9 plugs so far, and no issues with any of them. They all work great. There is easy to follow instructions with each plug. It was also easy for me to name the plug based on which device I have plugged into it. There is an app that shows me all 9 plugs on 1 screen & their current status.

Meross Smart Plugs and Alexa works great
These are great. I got the matter upgrade version and connected them to my Alexa. It was super easy, just scan and it’s takes care of everything. The power usage feature is great and accurate.

There were no instructions included on connecting to Apple Home! I downloaded their app first and then deleted it as it was not necessary. Once this was realized, connection to Apple Home went seamlessly.
