Easy to read display
I have an old Kill-a-watt and my biggest complaint is the hard to read display. This Aulifants device has a nice easy to read display and you can use your phone for remote monitoring and as a bonus you can turn whatever is plugged in on and off remotely. It also apparently has logging capability (to an SD card even, very nice) but I haven’t tested that yet. Overall I’m quite pleased with this power meter. If you have lost your user manual: Hold the “Back” button for 3 seconds to go into pairing mode. The light on the front should start blinking. Then go to the app, delete any old instances of this device and then hit “add device”. Follow instructions in app and you should get it setup pretty easily. To make the process easier make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4ghz WiFi network first. This device doesn’t support 5ghz WiFi and by default it will try to connect to the WiFi your phone is currently using. The bad:1. User manual is a tiny folded slip of paper. hard to read, not much info. And easy to lose according to other reviewers2. If you use the phone app you need to connect it to some unknown Chinese cloud server somewhere. Who knows when this will go away, and I’m not a fan of ANY cloud based devices and especially foreign ones being hooked up to my local network. If your router supports a guest network, you should consider using that for all cloud devices so they are isolated from your computer, phone, etc.3. 25 amp rating is probably BS. The plug on the back is a 15 amp style, as is the socket on the front. They mention 9 ga wire, which might be sufficient for 25a, but there are other components in there. The 25 amp rating says “continuous” but this is a switch. Switch load capacity is not stated. I’m pretty sure this device uses a relay based on the sound. It requires a pretty hefty relay to safely switch 25 amps, and I don’t think the one in this device is big enough. If you are using a high power device like a heater you should probably avoid using the switching function. The remote switch should be fine for things like lights (this would work well as a remote christmas light switch, just don’t put it outside in the weather)

Difficult to use, lacks safety certifications, bad customer service
This smart meter leaves a good impression at first glance, but has a few flaws. It turns on when you plug it in and starts counting cumulative Kw/h without further prompting, but it doesn’t time it or add a $ value unless you pair it with your phone and set it up through an app.And that’s problem #1. I either misplaced or my unit didn’t come with a setup manual. Amazon recommended I reach out to the manufacturer via their contact form, but there was no response. Nor were they thoughtful enough to make their manual available online as a PDF. So I’m left to figuring things out for myself.I was able to pair the device to the app (which app is mentioned in the product listing), but only once, and the connection dropped at some point. I couldn’t reconnect. In the app, I tried settings, such as setting a kw/h price, but my input wasn’t accepted. I also had no luck controlling it through Google Assistant. All this pretty much means that this meter is useless now. Frankly, a top notch device shouldn’t have been this hard to set up, and my tech-savvy self should have been able to figure it out without instructions. In addition, as another reviewer pointed out, it’s not certified by US or EU safety standards. As such, this smart meter could be a fire hazard. Unfortunately, I only noticed this after my purchase. I don’t believe products lacking such certifications should be made available on this platform.

Good for remote power monitoring and on-off control.
I had a different brand of plug-in watt meter previously. Then I got this one because it allows remote monitoring via internet-connected apps. The meter plugs into a wall outlet, and my monitored device is plugged into the front of the meter. Data about the voltage, current, and wattage are sent via the internet to either of two free apps: Smart Home or Tuya Smart. Both apps allow me to remotely turn the monitored device on or off. The meter worked well when I tested it on my bench polisher. I anticipate trying it on heavier loads later. There were some minor problems with this meter which caused me to subtract one star. First, the power button on mine was stuck, even while new out of the box. It feels like some glue got under the dome switch. I was able to unstick the button by wiggling it back and forth many times. Second, the bottom of the case protrudes too far down, so this meter blocks the use of the second outlet on a typical dual outlet. Third, each cellphone app starts by connecting to the closest wi-fi network. But after connecting to the meter, the app insists on switching to a 5GHz connection. If 5GHz wi-fi is not available, the Smart Home App refuses to monitor this device. That is puzzling, because the data rate from this monitor is refreshed very slowly, about once every 4 seconds.
