Worked great for 20 months-then failed and the replacement was DOA
The outlet failed to turn on after about 20 months of daily use. When it worked, it worked flawlessly.update: I did a factory reset and it started responding to the on-off switch and was able to be controlled by my Hubitat after it was registered to it. However, after it was removed from the hubitat it could not be added back. I am leaving it as 1 star because this happened. Additionally, when it was in the failed state it caused my entire z-wave network to be unstable (probably transmitting continuously). Since this is a wired-in device, fixing the network required removal of the ZW15R (I “fixed” it after it was removed). It is unlikely I will reinstall this device due to the damage to the network if it fails again when I am out of town.Second update:Leviton sent me a replacement. It was dead on arrival. There is a real problem with these. I have one working one installed, but because the failure can crash my z-wave network, I will be removing it and replacing it with a different device. Leviton is usually a good brand, but there is a significant design/QC problem with this outlet.third update:I returned both my original failed unit and the DOA replacement and told them I did not want a replacement since I do not trust them and would not install it. It was a $50 learning experience!

Much better than GE Z wave plugs
I have about 5 of the GE Z Wave plugs and they are big and bulky and seem to end up blocking the other outlet on the duplex. I needed two more Z Wave plugs and decided to try these DZPA1-2BW by Leviton. They do not have a pass through outlet like the GE’s but this allows for them to be much smaller in size and they mount with the plug outlet facing downward which to me makes more sense and gives you more room overall especially if you want to use the upper outlet on your duplex socket. I also thinks these are much more intuitive to use. Flashing Amber then Green to go into programing mode is a better design than the GE’s that you just push a button and wait to sync up. With the GE’s I have had some issues pairing them up at times and without the lights like the Leviton’s have, you really don’t know what the problem is. These paired up within a few seconds and have great range given that they are the Z Wave Plus. First impression, these are great, better and cheaper than others. I will continue to try a few more of these as I outfit my entire home.

Leviton Devora Smart Fan Speed Controller – Z-Wave — Works with Smartthings but…
I have had nothing but trouble with my prior fan controllers (GE Jasco). They have all failed at this point.Thankfully Leviton has finally released a competing product. The installation went fine — but getting it added to Smartthings wouldn’t work out of the box. So I had to perform a factory reset on the fan controller (hold for 14 seconds until it flashes red, then release the paddle), then I was able to join the fan controller without issue.Hopefully this helps someone else.I’m hoping this fan controller last longer then the Jasco. If so I’ll be buying 2 more. 🙂

I’ve been using Leviton Z Wave modules for many years
An excellent module. I have over 20 in use for over 12 years. Only had to replace 2 or 3 over the years. Easily connect to alarm system.

Alexa only sees on/off and switch is bulky
Not so smart. This specific switch is not supported by Levitonâs own app. SmartThings app sees it correctly and controls it just fine, however integration with Alexa is poor. Alexa does not support speed control commands for this device even though it sees it as. 4-speed fan switch. The item is bigger than other similar smart switches and is difficult to get wires into standard size 1-gang box.

This is not a stand alone unit. You will be on the hook to buy another device to get this working. Just be sure you realize this before buying.

Installation was fairly straightforward. Only issue I had and still donât understand is a warning from Smartthings that the connection was not as secure as it should be. I could not find the reasoning and left it as is. It however works perfectly.

I bought several of these modules for my security system and they work great. They came with clear programming instructions and were easy to set up. One of the devices I had didn’t function properly so I contacted Leviton Decora Smart and they sent me a replacement right away. In fact, I’m leaving this review to thank them for their terrific customer service!
