Fits in standard plate, inexpensive, works well
These cost a bit less than the Hue Dimmer and can be used for a similar purpose if you’re willing to TouchLink them. I prefer to use them with my Zigbee hub, Hubitat, for a variety of more powerful purposes. (Hubitat supports these devices natively; if you’re using a different Zigbee HA hub like SmartThings, don’t expect it to work unless they have a driver/device handler for it or if it’s on their whitelist; it should work with Zigbee LL as described above).Unlike the Hue Dimmer, these fit in a standard decorator plate, which besides the price is their main advantage (if you only want to use them on Hue, the app doesn’t “see” them so you won’t be able to, for example, cycle between scenes with multiple presses, unless there’s a way to set that up that I don’t know about, so the Hue Dimmer may be more functional if you value that). They are arguably a bit better-looking, too. Both only come in white, and both also come with their own mounting plate (for on-the-wall or anywhere installation), but again, the Eria can be mounted in any decorator plate (they even include wire nuts if you want to replace an existing switch with it).My only issue is that it takes a second or two after holding the “up” or “down” buttons for it to send a “held” event (release any quicker and you’ll just get a “pushed” event). Some of this could be specific to my hub, Hubitat, but I imagine it’s only interpreting what the device itself sends. In any case this means that if you want to configure it to start dimming when the button is held and stop dimming when it’s released (emulating what you’d expect), you’ll have to hold it down for a while before it will even start. This can mostly be worked around by using “pushed” to just step the brightness up/down by a specific level, but I still wish the “held” delay was a bit less.

Good price, works with Philips Hue, Setup can be awkward
I bought this dimmer switch and bulb to expand my Hue lighting system. The bulb is recognized by Hue with no problems. The remote however is more complicated. You have to follow an undocumented process to first join the switch to your Hue network. Then you have to use touch link to pair it with individual bulbs. For some reason the process of joining it to the network is difficult – I had to attempt several times to get it to work.I found this out by emailing the company. Their support was very friendly and helpful, and ultimately got me sorted out. I’m planning on adding more of these remotes and bulbs to my Hue.Here’s the process to get the remote to join a Hue network and then connect it with bulbs:1. hold down two middle buttons (dimmer up and dimmer down) until the green light flashes once (this resets the remote)2. In the Philips app on your phone, add a new Hue Dimmer Switch. Chose ‘add a new switch’ and choose yes when it asks if the green light is flashing on the remote (it won’t be, just ignore that).3. Take the remote near your Hue bridge and hold down the off button (the O) until the green light flashes 3 times. If instead you see 3 red flashes, the remote has failed to join the network. Go back to step 1 and try again. I had to do this several times before I got 3 green flashes on the remote.4. You can verify that the remote is on your Hue network because now every time you press a button on the remote the green light will flash once (even though the remote is not paired with any bulbs). Note that the remote WILL NOT appear in the Hue app.5. Now use touch link to pair the remote with one or more bulbs. To do this, hold the remote touching the bulb and press the on button (I) until the bulb flashes a few times. Philips bulbs flash three times and then another time after a delay. Eria bulbs flash three times and then dim twice. I suspect this will vary greatly between manufacturers. Just be patient and hold the remote next to the bulb with that on button held down.6. Repeat step 5 with as many bulbs as you want to control the remote with. Note that again you will see nothing in the Hue app about this remote. It basically operates independently on the Zigbee network to talk with just the bulbs you’ve touch link paired with it. A nice side effect of this is you don’t have to just add bulbs in the same room (as defined in the Hue app). You can add any bulbs on your network. The only downside is that the remote operates on all touch link connected bulbs together – you can’t use the remote to turn on or off just one bulb if you’ve paired it with multiple bulbs.NOTE 1: you can touch link bind bulbs to this remote without first joining the remote to the Hue network. However if you do this, you will find that the bulbs become locked to the remote – Hue will report them as unreachable and you can no longer control them via Hue. If you accidentally get a bulb in this state, you have to reset it and re-join it to your Hue network. One way to do this is to use a different remote that supports reseting devices via touch link. I used the RGBGenie remote to do this. I suspect you could also remove the bulb from the Hue app and search for it again.NOTE 2: Philips bulbs will only do touch link for the first 30 seconds after power is applied to them.So bottom line is that this remote does work with Hue, but it’s kind of awkward to configure. Also note that the remote holder plate is really designed to be screwed in to an outlet box and replace an existing switch. Unlike the Hue dimmer switch holder, it does not fit flat against a wall if it’s not in an outlet box. This means that if you just use double sided tape to stick the holder on the wall, it will look a little weird.I’ve asked Eria support to add these instructions to their website, hopefully they will do this soon. There’s literally no info anywhere on the web about how this works.

Super handy, fits in the junction box, looks like an expensive unit
This is a problem solver for sure. I use all sorts of electronic parts, and this is a great piece for a great price. In my application, I wanted to install the new flat “looks like a can light, but really isn’t”. No problem, just mount the “flat cans” and route the wiring to a convenient place where a switch module can be installed. That’s only half the equation though- a switch where I want it would be much more difficult to install.I removed the 4-gang decora switch plate in my foyer and installed a 5-gang plate with this remote in the new empty space. Yes, it took a little work, but nowhere near the amount of work and repairs necessary to install new wiring to that junction box.Now I have “can lights” in my living room, and a switch in a place I want it. For those who prefer a remote they can carry around, this unit has a magnetic mount, so it easily pops out of it’s space in the switch plate when that is needed. The cost is amazingly good for a product with such functionality. DO REMEMBER, that this isn’t the load controller- it is a remote control for the load controller, and it works quite well at that task.

Don’t waste your money
These work Okay when I first got them and I do just me and okay sometimes I had to push the button a couple of times before it would turn it the light on but now several weeks later they are total garbage. now I have to push the button repeatedly several several times I’m talkin dozen and sometimes that don’t even help it won’t turn the light on. Also the battery monitor on the app does not work always says the batteries at 0% I’ve tested the battery and it is above 3 volts I even tried replacing the battery just for the heck of it. tested the new battery still above 3 volts but still says the battery is at 0%. In my opinion these are garbage and that is where they’re going to go. going to be looking for something better!

I’m using this with Home Assistant (ZHA with HUSBZB-1 stick) and it works pretty well. The button feel is quite cheap/wobbly and there has been the odd instance where a button seems to get suck (LED stays lit) until I press again to get it unstuck.I use 2 of them for media controls. The On button is used as Play/Pause on whatever device is currently playing in our living room. The Off button toggles the power of our Television and attached devices. Up is Vol+ and Down is Vol-. I even attached the wallplate to the side of our couch. We’ll never have to search for a lost remote again :)UPDATE: One of mine has an issue where the down button either doesn’t work or gets stuck. It’s happened since day 1 and I thought it was just a bad battery. Finally got around to looking at it and it’s simply defective. Too late to return it too.

First off, this is a great looking controller and I appreciate the magnetic mount aswell! It is easy to remove, but does not fall out!On to the challenge, I, unfortunately, find that it often doesn’t respond to commands right away and sometimes even takes one or two button pressses. I also have to pair it directly, would prefer in the future to be able to link through smartthings.
