Better than expected fair price
I was worried these might not be that good, but they work great, look cool, lots of cool settings and exceeded my expectations for the price I paid.

Nice system but super difficult to put on anything vertical.
Well ok… what you get is six LED bars, six round ‘hubs’, a controller, a power supply, some adhesive pads to attach to a wall, and some cable management clips (why the clips? I don’t know, there is only one cable). Each hub has a number of ports all the way around – allowing you to plug each bar and create a number of angles, shapes, etc. To attach a bar, you insert it into the port and push until you feel the ‘click’.Herein lies the only major problem – once clicked in place, they easily fall out while you are trying to put others in place. In fact, once I finally got all of them into a desired shape, carrying it to the wall caused most of them to fall out. This is the largest flaw – making positioning it on a vertical surface very hard (not impossible). However, my walls are wood paneled, and I was not certain I wanted to use the adhesive on the wood – so I opted to put this on the railing between my dining room and living room. I just stretched it out into a long straight line. (When my SO came home and saw it, he immediately touched it and immediately a bar disconnected and he said “I BROKE IT”, though of course not – just push it back in – but that goes to show how easy these disconnect). The controller can be used to control it without the app, but you can also download an app (I downloaded the iOS version) and control the unit with that.As per the app… there are two apps on the Apple App store with nearly the same name – one is the right one, the other is not and wants monthly or yearly subscription (though both apps LOOK like the right one in terms of what they do).I downloaded the wrong one initially… so don’t do what I did. I recommend scanning their QR code to go to the proper app.The app connects wirelessly and through bluetooth. The controller has its own WiFi hotspot and the app made configuration simple (just put in the password for your router and off it went). You need to use a 2.4 network, not a 5.0.The app lets you do all sorts of things, from painting each segments colors, to picking pre-done sequences (or creating your own). It also has a variety of modes where it responds to music (set the sensitivity high for a better experience). So… functionally – these are very nice. The LEDs are very bright and the unit seems intelligent in how it combines the various bars. Motion is smooth and there are lots and lots of sequences to select from.Unfortunately the app doesn’t give a good representation of what a sequence looks like – so you have to try each to see what ones you like and what ones you don’t.As a programmer, I’d be interested in the interface as this seems to be a fun device to try to control programmatically. So, fun device – hard to hang (I gave up) – great on a vertical surface though.

Ordered as a gift
Lets start off with the first thing everyone sees when they open a box from Amazon:The packaging. The packaging was pretty nice – a rectangular box, with a cool little graphic of the light bars capabilities. Once opened up, there’s a corrugated cardboard type insert that houses the 2 cable sets, 6 light bars, 6 hubs (more on that later), 6 (what I’m assuming to be) adhesive backing/mounting pads, and a small baggie of plastic mounting clips & associated screws. Now we’ll dive a little deeper into this. Next up, the operation. The unique thing about this kit, is that it’s based on a “hub” topology. You get 6 disks. These disks, have a row of pins in 6 different positions. The light bars? You guessed it. They have a row of sockets on it. You essentially just click it into the hub, and then connect another light bar,or another hub, and so on and so forth. It’s the same concept as images of constellations in the night sky.The remote is a round puck, with 6 individual buttons with an icon to control various aspects of the light bars:Speed – as evidenced by the + AND – buttons (one quirk about this, as I’ll explain later)RGB – should be self explanatory; This cycles the bar through all available colors.Brightness – self explanatoryMicrophone – self explanatorySlider – allows you to customized various aspects of the different modes (ie: if the lights are chasing, what color(s) do you want to chase? Just blue? Red chasing blue? Each chase is a different color?)Now, one downside, and one weird quirk:The downside is, is that the remote is a wired remote. It’s not an IR/Wifi remote. Account for this when planning your mounting. The quirk, is that the + and – buttons are reversed. Like, literally reversed. The minus button actually speeds up, and the plus button actually slows down. I don’t know if this is just a misprint on the button (most likely), or there’s a short in the remote. My money is just a misprint, because the buttons react accordingly, just contrary to how they’re actually marked. Also, I don’t know if this is just a one off thing with my kit, or if others have reported the same issue. The LED bars feel pretty solid. They’re encased in plastic on 3 sides, and one side has a diffused lens. I haven’t held them against the wall, so I can’t speculate on how well they throw light, but on the short test I did, the light output seems pretty nice (assuming the brightness wasn’t maxed out on the remote), and gives off a semi soft glow. All in all, I like these. I plan on gifting these to my cousins son, who is/has launched a content channel. This can be his studio warming present. LOL. Would definitely order again for him, if he wanted to expand his LED light bar design.
