Great quality product. Comprehensive addition to amomii UNO and intro to coding and gadgetry!
I got a set each for my 11 and 13-year-old kids and added them to the amomii UNO… They’ve never done programming before but once they scanned the QR code for instructions were able to dive in with just enough difficulty to be challenging and still provide an extremely fulfilling project. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. After some work they got the LEDs flashing, changing brightness and colours, and doing what they wanted….amazing! It’s not just a simple plug-and-play, but a quality learning tool… very satisfying to see it working as promised after the straightforward coding and programming! This really spurred my boy’s curiosity and today they are jumping into building a Backlit Sign using the instructions in the Projects and Hacks area of the amomii website. Access to all the projects and learning is free…what a great way to learn and have fun at the same time!

    Very well made RGB matrix
As other reviewers mentioned above, this is a nicely made RGB matrix in Uno-shields style. I have used several other RGB matrix boards, most of them are made with WS2812B controllers that are NeoPixel library comparable. The part I like most about this board is the RGB LEDs are all sealed with white defusing material, which makes the light quality much better than those built with bear RGB diodes with internal wires exposed when lit.The reasons that I take off one star are the following:1) Yes, it is better to use LEDs sealed with defusing material. But It would be even better if they could find LEDs covered with a better defusing structure to fully eliminate the light center, making every LED an evenly lit dot.2) some users prefer the spread LED layout, but I prefer a more condensed layout, such as the layout on Ardu2040M board. Again, this is a bias for my own project needs.3) I wish they had used LEDs that are built with SASK9822 or ACA102C compatible controllers, which provide much better performance and better optical quality. Hopefully, they will have an upgraded version in this direction sometime soon.4) This manufacturer does seem to be less open on their sample code. I spent some time looking for the RGB strip data PIN on the UNO header before I was able to code it. Sure one can eventually figure it out from one of the figures on the provided instruction sheet (D9 on the UNO board header). This PIN is stated in their sample code, only after you sign up for a user account on their website.Overall, this is a very well-built board, with a reasonable price in the Arduino-compatible RGB matrix category. It also works well with the Wemo D1 R32 board (only have to change the data pin from 9 on UNO to 13 on Wemo D1R32), which is a UNO-style (highly compatible physically) ESP32 board with much more power.

Great Idea to start with electronics and programming
I followed along with the Getting Start pdf and currently have all 8 of the strips showing random light patterns behind my computer screen lighting up the wall. Looks awesome. Now I need to learn to write some custom code and get them setup how I want them. The start of an exciting journey.

Nifty, versatile board for a multitude of micros at a fair price
I don’t do Arduno hardware, but I assume that’s the reason for the relatively large size of this board.Unlike a lot of accessories with Arduino in the name, they actually made this practical to use for other small computers (MCUS, SBCs) as well. At this point, the programming details for WS2812B are known on all of them, and drivers are plentiful. Sure enough, it works as expected on a variety of my existing controllers.Powering 256 of these at full tilt can be a bit ghastly. At full intensity white on all pixels, the 15.36A power requirement – even if only briefly, as that’s not exactly a sane way to build a floodlight – can surprise many people. I don’t think this board allows sufficient cooling for that even if you can provide it to the board. I wouldn’t be shocked if pixels desoldered themselves if left running that way for long…but that’s just not a very practical thing to do anyway.I tested that the LED matrix worked with a variety of controllers, powered fine from a USB-C cable (it uses the 5v/3A mode; no Power Delivery required) and verified with a meter that the switches are readable. This could be an attactive foundation for a starter to build a game of, say, snake or pong or a marquee sign if chained or a variety of other projects using choices of ESP32, STM32, or a variety of RISC-V and other small microcontrollers that have enough RAM and ROM. to store things like needed fonts if necessary. The hardware is easy to work with, even when not on Arduino.Another reviewer took points off for the board not being things it didn’t claim to be, but that’s not how I roll. I will, however, give a suggestion to the maker of the board if they’re listening. The WS2812c-2020’s are probably more appropriate for a board like this. The smaller chips have a less hungry power requirement. A novice is less likely to create a project that immediately sets all the pixels to maximum brightness and either immediately crashes their micro because the power supply is overloaded or burns themselves on a physically hot board. The goal of a board like this isn’t necessarily to be seen from space. Being seen comfortably on a workbench is a reasonable goal, and smaller LEDs that are equally capable and compatible would help.Overall, I think this is a good intro board for someone working with the ubiquitous WS2812/NeoPixel classes of chips. They’re great fun to work with.

    Light It Up
Having gifted my grandson with an Arduino UNO Basic Kit, I discovered this amomii USB C WS2812B Matrix Shield and it seemed to be a perfect extension to the learning capabilities and fun of the UNO. It has been exactly that and provided lots of together time with my grandson. Overall very happy with the quality, contents, and capabilities of this kit!
