FAST setup, Great Camera from a Dependable Company
I am new to Amcrest Smart Home, which is what this camera is optimized for, but it took less than seven minutes from the time I opened the box and powered on the camera, to the time I was seeing live video in the Amcrest Smart Home app. Though I’m generally not a fan of “Smart Home” apps, the Amcrest app is intuitive and easy to understand. I especially like that they have English words under the icons, so that I’m not expected to try to figure out what each icon means. That’s a huge plus. There is about a 3-second delay in the video when viewing the app over Verizon 5G. The delay is about 2 seconds when I’m on my home wifi (the same wifi as the camera is on). Both of these delays are quite normal and common for products like this. There is about a 6-second delay (on Verizon 5G) when pressing the “Talk” button in the app, until the speaker turns on in the camera. If I needed to speak to someone in range of the camera right away, to prevent a problem or alert them to something, six seconds is a LONG time. I understand the reasons why delay is inherent in devices such as this, but ut would be helpful if Amcrest were able to reduce that delay through firmware adjustments. The “Listen” feature is immediate when I tap the speaker icon, but it takes two seconds for spoken audio to play in the app. The audio sync with the camera appears to be perfect, so that’s very good.I don’t have much need for the baby monitor function, but running it through its paces, I can see where it could be very valuable. I thought being able to set the loudness threshold on the microphone was a very nice touch, to keep the app from notifying you if the baby is just moving around, but not in distress. The rest of the features, Full Screen, HD/SD Quality, Snapshot and Record all functioned as expected. Video quality is really good for a WiFi camera, especially when viewed over Verizon 5G. However, I don’t think it’s any better than my other Amcrest cameras…which isn’t really a problem, since my more than 25 Amcrest cameras all look great. I have this one set to 1920×1080, 20FPS, Bitrate 2048, and it’s smooth and clean looking, even in low-light conditions, which is something I’ve come to expect from Amcrest cameras.Though the Smart Home app works great, I will be using this camera primarily with BlueIris, and it was a bit challenging to get the settings just right for use with that software. However, I knew that going in, because the Amcrest marketing materials state that the camera is optimized for the Amcrest Smart Home app. Frankly, I didn’t expect it to work at all with BlueIris, so it was a nice surprise when it did. I do wish pan/tilt worked inside BlueIris, but I can always use the Smart Home app to position the camera when needed, so that’s not a dealbreaker. The packaging was almost all cardboard, with just a couple of sections of foam to protect the top and bottom of the camera. I LOVE this about Amcrest cameras. There is a minimum of plastic/foam in all their packaging, and that is a huge positive to me. The Quick Setup Guide was very simple and succinct, understandable since the app really walks you through the setup. I would have liked to try the Smart Tracking feature, but I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. I pressed the button that matched the icon in the manual, but it didn’t track me. I won’t be using that feature, so it’s not a big deal. But it would be a good idea for Amcrest to include that in future editions of the Quick Setup Guide. Rather than just describing the feature, they could actually instruct people how to turn it on.My overall impression of this experience is basically the same as I’ve had with all my other Amcrest cameras. They just WORK. To not have to spend hours fiddling with a camera is a very good thing. Especially one like this, where you maybe want to throw it in your luggage and have a camera watching your hotel room or VRBO while you’re out.If you’re looking for a great quality camera for use as a nanny camera, doggie camera, or just add it to your collection of home security cameras, this camera is a great addition.

Works very well for a great price
I bought this on a cyber Monday deal as a pet cam. Well worth the money. Was easy to set up with the app. I also use it with my Blue Iris software. I like that I can put this in privacy mode when you are home. Wish it had an auto setting that would arm/disarm the camera based on a location setting when I am home or away. Other than that I am very pleased with my camera.

    Nice little WiFi camera
Nice little WiFi camera. The good:- This camera looks really nice. The form factor is on point. I wish I would have gotten the white version instead of black so that it could blend in a little better with the wall.- Amcrest has made setting up this camera super easy. Download the app, scan the code on the camera… and bam. It might be the easiest smart device I’ve set up.- SD slot allows for on board recording if you opt to go that route.- Motion tracking is ok. Seems to work well if there is only 1 person in the room. But if there is a ceiling fan or second person the camera tends to get confused. You are able to set zones up to watch/not watch but if you plan to move this camera around to different rooms these zones change. Primarily for this reason we have not really used the motion tracking feature. The camera has a wide enough viewing angle that we do not really need the camera to move around to see the whole room.No issues with picture quality both during regular mode and night mode other than SD vs HD default mentioned below. The not so good:- This camera works pretty well for a security camera, however we found it didn’t work well for us as a baby monitor. We were excited to try it out as a baby monitor but quickly realized the software limitations appear to only allow 1 person full control of the camera. You can share the camera with other people but they are given only limited control. Limited control would be great for giving access to people watching our kiddo however it would be nice to have the option to give a spouse full control of the camera. The lack of control for a second user kept us from being able to really utilize this as a baby monitor.- Along with this lack of control, a second user is unable to temporarily turn off the camera in the event they want it off for any reason.- The camera defaults to SD every time the app is opened. That is ok when you are off wifi however that would be nice to be able to change that to be HD by default instead of having to hit that button every time.- Decent knowledge base on their website, but not really a place to ask a question to someone online without calling their support line. I asked a question on their website regarding the second full user and 10 days later the question still shows as “pending approval”- Phone notifications. Maybe a user error on a setting in the app, but could not figure out how which notifications were being sent to phone. If the camera is set up in a living room for example be prepared to receive action detection alert every 5 seconds. These might be great when you aren’t home or sleeping but really get annoying fast when you are home and in the room. Any given day shows the number of notifications for us at 99+. For this reason we opted to turn off all push notifications which kind of defeats the purpose as a security camera. Maybe if there was a way to schedule push notifications for night motion or if we are away.. Again, could be user error.——————Overall, this is a camera I believe I would buy again if looking for an indoor wifi security camera especially if they could make some minor software tweaks. If you are looking to use this primarily as a baby monitor I would stick with a true baby monitor in lieu of this product.

    I Lost Money
When I first got the camera, I was pretty disappointed when I saw how cheap it looked and felt but I just ignored it since it isn’t too expensive. Then I saw how ghetto their software is and forget it. I already started looking into better options. Well I found some better options, but decided I’d just keep this one since it was only $30. I will just upgrade when I have the money. So I went to put in the microSD so it can actually store video data (otherwise almost pointless, unless it’s just to monitor a baby) and it got jammed. It’s still stuck in there, I tried everything to get it out. This is not supposed to be possible. No wonder this is a frequently returned item, of course Amazon doesn’t say that until after I bought it lol. And yeah the app doesn’t make it any better, if you’re planning on integrating it with HomeKit through SYSbridge or homebridge, forget that too lol I’ve read mixed reviews on people’s luck with it and I’m one of the people who it just doesn’t work for. May be a firmware issue, not sure. But yeah, now I’m out an SD card and I would love to just break it open so I can get it back but then I can’t return it. Never buy AMCREST.
