Using this within Home Assistant, and it’s been great so far
Purchased this to control an air conditioner located in our basement, where we’ve discovered we have a small mold problem. The in-wall split unit AC has an integrated dehumidifier, so I got the idea to use this in conjunction with Home Assistant to monitor and turn on the dehumidifier when the humidity passes a certain point. The setup process requires setting it up within the Broadlink app first, unlocking the blaster in the device properties, and then adding it to HA. That setup process was painless in the Broadlink app, and likewise once it was unlocked it was discovered by HA and added without an issue. All IR remote functions, as well as the temperature and humidity sensors from the cable, were configured in HA without any issue.Within HA, I used the SmartIR custom integration, which allows me to use pre-defined codesets to control my AC as a climate device. Since the air conditioner in question had a codeset already defined, I didn’t need to make my own, which saved a lot of time and effort. It is possible to create your own codeset, but quite frankly it’s a huge pain, especially so if you don’t have a technical background. This isn’t a critique of the actual product or the official software from Broadlink, mind you; this is very much an issue with the third party Home Assistant integration. With that said, I felt it was important to mention regardless, as that’s how I’m using the product.Once the virtual AC was set up, it was fairly trivial to create the relevant automations (threshold sensor that turns on and off when the measured humidity passes certain points, then making an automation to turn the AC on or off when that sensor would change state). From my testing, it works perfectly. We have the automation disabled while examining less power-hungry steps, but as a patchwork solution it works excellently.Overall, I’m quite pleased with the device.

functional automatic fan control
It works better than expected. Can just use through its app, alexa/google integrations are optional. It is a bit technical to program, but it is made to be very flexible. Can teach it commands with a remote, or can use communities created remotes if not in the default library. To temperature control a fan may require several commands to maintain a temperature. It looks like you can also use smart plugs to help turn on/off devices but it can be difficult to know their state when just using the IR functions. Not really meant as automation control but can be done with some work. More just meant to relay voice controls. Im glad at the level of automation on the device and I didn’t have to program something even more hacky on Alexa but it could be a bit more user friendly. It could not control a window fan 6 ft away when this was on top of a tall dresser. It doesn’t appear to send commands downward. It needs to be near eyelevel with the devices it controls.

Pretty accurate!
I have this in the same room as my Google thermostat and they’re rarely not at the same temperature, usually only by a degree difference. The humidity sensor is also good.

Good Cheap alternative, poor software. But great for $20 if you dont mind tinkering
Works as good backup to remote but software is difficult and glitches. Not recommend for primary operations and automation/scheduling is hit or miss if it works. Good for price, if it was not for automation not working it would probably be 5 stars even with clunky software.
